Structural Integration

What is Structural Integration?

Structural integration is a process-based body therapy. That means you will steadily feel more benefits.

The focus of Structural Integration is on connective tissue called fascia. Structural Integration works to lengthen and move the fascia.  When the fascia is longer it allows the muscles to move better.

How does Structural Integration Work?

The stress of daily activities pull the body out of alignment. Physical injuries can also misalign the body. Then the fascia gradually becomes short and tight. Soon the misalignment becomes a new “normal”.

With better alignment and balance, the body moves more easily and has less pain. With better alignment we have better posture. Also, breathing is easier and the body becomes more flexible. Many athletes receive Structural Integration because it can improve athletic performance.

What can I expect from a Structural Integration session?

The practitioner will apply pressure to the body to work the entire fascial system. The pressure can sometimes be uncomfortable, so you should tell the therapist how much pressure you can take. Some people feel slightly sore for a few hours after a Structural Integration session. Most clients report they have less, or even none of the muscle pain they were experiencing before their first session.
